Why Vague Goals Are Holding You Back

As we approach the end of the year, it’s the perfect time to reflect and set goals for 2025.

But here’s the thing: vague goals won’t get you anywhere.

Too often, I see people set goals like, “I want to get fitter” or “I want to lose weight.” While these intentions are great, they lack clarity, structure, and accountability—key elements needed for real progress.

Here’s why vague goals fail: they don’t give you a definitive target, timeline, or action plan. Without these, it’s nearly impossible to measure progress, stay motivated, or achieve the results you want.

How to Set Goals That Deliver Results

If you’re ready to make 2025 the year you crush your goals, here are three steps to get started:

  1. Decide What You Want and When You Want It - Be specific. Instead of saying, “I want to get fitter,” say, “I want to run a 10k in under 50 minutes by June” or “I want to lose 10kg by the end of April.” A clear goal gives you something tangible to aim for and a timeline to build your plan around.

  2. Evaluate Your Lifestyle - Ask yourself: does your current routine align with your goal? If not, are you willing to make the necessary changes? Whether it’s prioritizing training sessions, improving your nutrition, or cutting back on habits that hold you back, achieving big goals often requires a lifestyle shift.

  3. Get the Support You Need - Do you have the knowledge to create a plan and the discipline to stay accountable? If not, that’s okay—most people don’t. This is where coaching can make all the difference. A coach provides the expertise, structure, and accountability you need to stay on track and reach your potential.
